Podsused
Year: 2025
Location: Zagreb

Located on the western edge of Zagreb, within the urbanistically specific context of the Podsused neighborhood, the newly planned residential and mixed-use complex comprises two buildings – one residential and one mixed-use. The design concept represents a contemporary architectural response to the local identity of the area, with a clear formal gesture that reinterprets the industrial heritage of this part of the city, particularly the historical brickworks that once defined its development. The residential building is conceived through a rational spatial organization that allows for optimal functionality and flexibility of housing units. Each building contains 13 apartments of varying sizes and layouts, arranged within compact volumes with a strong emphasis on efficient use of space, favorable orientation, and high-quality natural lighting.
The architectural expression of the façade is based on the interplay of contrasting materials – brick, panel cladding, and classic ETICS façade systems. This contrast enhances the tactile and visual depth of the façade and contributes to a clear articulation of volumes and a distinctive urban identity of the complex.
The building's micro-location ensures connectivity with major traffic routes, public transport, and urban infrastructure, while simultaneously retaining the quiet character of a residential setting in close proximity to the Sava River and natural green zones. As such, the project integrates the spatial logic of its micro-location with the demands of contemporary, comfortable living.
